Everything you ever wanted to know about voluntary contributions to the Hillside PTA (but were afraid to ask)!

Your PTA works hard to bring you and your children fun and educational activities and events throughout the school year.  The PTA also supports the school and students by funding programs, technology equipment and upgrades, and grants for teachers and classrooms.  We are able to provide all of this thanks to voluntary contributions from our parent community and to additional fundraising.  Here is an overview of how it all works:

PTA MEMBERSHIP:  If you join the PTA (and we hope you will!), your PTA membership dues ($15 per family) are paid each year.  This contribution is voluntary and goes to pay for our NJPTA dues and help fund other PTA activities (Family Fun Nights, Outdoor Movie Night, and Art Appreciation, just to name a few).  You also receive our fabulous buzz book, where you can find contact info for Hillside families and school information.  This directory makes it so easy to plan play dates and parties.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS/ACTIVITIES:  This is the main way the Hillside PTA raises money to fund the majority of enrichment activities that the PTA provides, such as After School Enrichment (TREP$ and School Play), Cultural Arts Assemblies, new technology for the Makerspace, grants for our teachers and specialists, Teacher Appreciation, Hillside’s Carnival and so much more.   All money contributed is greatly appreciated and goes directly back into our school for our children.

CLASSROOM FUNDS:  Each class has 2 class parents who collect a voluntary contribution of $25 per student to cover 4 class parties (Halloween, Holiday, Valentine’s Day and end of year), teacher appreciation week, teacher gifts and contribution towards the grade level basket for the Spring Fundraiser (our biggest fundraiser).  You will learn more about this at Back to School Night.  Find out more about being a Class Parent here.

5TH GRADE COMMITTEE:  The 5th Grade Committee is part of the PTA, but run a variety of events/fundraisers to specifically cover expenses for the graduating fifth graders.  Their funds cover many things such as the Promotion Ceremony, 1/2 Day Activities, the Clap Out, the Boat Trip, and student gifts (yearbooks, sweatshirts, etc.).  5th grade parents will learn more about the 5th Grade Committee at Back to School Night and can find out more information HERE.
